IRS Urges Tax Pros to Register Early for Remaining 2025 Nationwide Tax Forums

The IRS announced that spots are filling quickly for the remaining 2025 Nationwide Tax Forums, with Chicago. And New Orleans, and San Diego already sold out. Tax professionals can still register for Orlando (Aug. 26–28) and Baltimore (Sept. 9–11) to access up to 18 CE credits, tax law updates, ethics sessions, and hands-on IRS support.

IRS Reminder: Student Loan Repayment Assistance Available Through 2025

The IRS reminded employers that they can continue offering up to $5,250 per year. So in tax-free student loan repayment assistance through December 31, 2025, as part of educational assistance programs. This benefit, originally expanded by pandemic relief measures, helps employees reduce student debt while avoiding taxable wages.

IRS: No Changes to Forms or Withholding Tables for 2025 Under OBBBA

The IRS announced that for Tax Year 2025, there will be no changes to Forms W-2, 1099, 941. Also federal withholding tables under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). Employers and payroll providers should continue current reporting. And withholding procedures, with updates expected for TY 2026 to cover areas like tips and overtime pay.

In its latest Security Summit release, the IRS reminded tax professionals and taxpayers about the importance of using Identity Protection PINs (IP PINs), IRS Online Accounts. And mandatory multi-factor authentication (MFA) to guard against tax-related identity theft. These tools, along with secure Tax Pro Accounts, are key defenses in protecting sensitive client information.

IRS Opens 2026 CAP Program Application Period for Large Corporations

The IRS announced that applications for the 2026 Compliance Assurance Process (CAP) program will be open from Sept. 3 to Oct. 31, 2025, with notifications issued in February 2026. CAP allows large corporations to resolve tax issues in real time with the IRS before filing returns, provided they meet eligibility requirements such as $10M+ in assets and audited financial statements.

IRS Issues FAQs on Energy Credits and Deductions Under OBBBA

The IRS released FAQs in Fact Sheet 2025-05 addressing changes under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) for various energy credits. And deductions, including sections 25C, 25D, 25E, 30C, 30D, 45L, 45W, and 179D. The guidance clarifies expiration dates and availability of credits like the clean vehicle credit, energy-efficient home improvement credit, and residential clean energy credit.

Affected taxpayers now have until Feb. 2, 2026, to file returns and make certain tax payments, with options for claiming disaster losses. And additional relief for retirement plans, penalty abatements, and more.

Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Filing Season Open: Key Deadlines for Form 2290

The IRS reminds taxpayers that the Heavy Highway Vehicle. So Use Tax (Form 2290) applies to trucks with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more. The 2025–2026 filing season runs from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, with deadlines based on the vehicle’s first use month.
